Novel Technique: The Use of Suction in RIRS | Dr. Parag Gulhane
RIRS stands for Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery. Here a flexible endoscope is passed from the penis through the bladder into the ureter till it reaches inside the kidney. Then the scope can be turned into almost all pockets of kidney and stones are looked for. All the stones in the kidney are then fragmented and dusted with laser till they turn into fine dust. This dust then flows out with the urine flow in a few days.
Thanks to the introduction of suction sheaths in RIRS, now we can simultaneously break and suck the dust-out. Also if any small fragments remain after dusting, even those can be sucked out completely.
Advantages of suction RIRS:
Complete clearance of stone and dust
Decreases operative time
Early removal of DJ stent
Less pressure inside the kidney resulting in lower infection rates.
Dr. Parag Gulhane, a leading urologist in Hadapsar, is at the forefront of utilizing this cutting-edge technique, providing his patients with safer and more effective kidney stone treatments.
