Kidney stones when obstructed can cause severe intolerable pain. They can result in kidney infection, particularly in impacted stones, diabetics, extremes of age, or immunocompromised patients. Stones can even block your urine and cause painful retention. A long-standing stone can result in permanent kidney failure.
